MYANMAR secured the gold medal in the 1000-meter women’s traditional boat race and took the bronze medal in men’s volleyball at the 19th ASEAN University Games in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday. On the second day of the traditional boat race, Myanmar women’s team grabbed the gold medal by a record of 5 minutes and 4.84 seconds. Thailand won the silver medal, finishing the race in 5 minutes and 9.50 seconds. Singapore took the bronze medal, finishing in 5 minutes and 15.92 seconds. Initially, the Thai team led in the boat race. But near the final point, team Myanmar managed to overtake them to finish with a lead of 5 seconds. With the win, Myanmar has secured two gold medals and two silver medals in the traditional boat race in the Games. On 15 December, one traditional boat race will be held along with five events of the international boat race. In the match for the third place in men’s volleyball yesterday, Myanmar played against Indonesia. Myanmar secured the bronze medal by beating Indonesia 3-1, scoring 25-19, 25-21, 22-25 and 25-21. In the final match of the men’s volleyball, the Philippines team won the gold medal by beating the Thailand team 3-1. In women’s volleyball, the Thailand team trounced the Singapore team by 3-0.
